THIS IS A GORGEOUS OLD ANTIQUE HAND STITCHED QUILT IN THE VERY POPULAR FADED RED AND CREAMY WHITE COLORS WITH TINY STITCHES THAT IS SIGNED AND DATED MOTHER, MARCH 6, 1906 WITH THE COMPLETE PROVENANCE TYPED ON A PAPER AND TAPED TO THE BACK OF THE QUILT.
This is an older quilt that is very well made and of good quality. The quilt was made by Margaret Frances Jane Hodge (Mrs. Willaim Burgess Albright) and she stitched the date March 6, 1906 and stitched Mother at the bottom front, as I show. There is a little loose red fabric in that area that separated and worn from the quilt, as I show. The hand stitching is with tiny stitches and lots of it. I love that the provenance is on this quilt, which is a very interesting story. This looks like the pattern is a cross block, chimney Sweep or Formal Garden. A small section of the back piece of fabric, has a small area with a lighter fabric, where she probably ran out of fabric. There are some stains, as I show. I show a close up where you can see some of the red pieces have minor separations or tears, as is common with older red fabrics. There is yellowing, the stains, minor tears to a few of the red pieces, a little fraying of the fabric with threads along the seams, fading, and wear. .
Measurements are about 86" by 86".
