THIS IS A GORGEOUS OLD ANTIQUE PATCHWORK CRAZY QUILT USING SILK, VELVET AND OTHER FABRICS WITH INTRICATE DECORATIVE STITCHING AROUND THE PATCHES AND MANY MEMENTOS, INCLUDING FLOWERS, CATS, BIRDS AND MORE. THIS WAS MADE BY THE WIFE OF A FAMOUS ARTIST, JOHN BOND FRANCISCO
PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE SILK FABRICS HAVE TORN, AS I SHOW, AS IS EXPECTED FROM AN ANTIQUE QUILT FROM THE LATE 1800'S.
This is a finished quilt with the backing. You can see along the edges when there is wear and a little fraying. Some of the silks are torn, fraying with loose threads, or completely worn off which is normal for crazy quilts of this age with silk fabrics. The hand decorative stitching is fabulous and intricate and there is so much of it. There is a piece of paper pinned to the back that says, Victorian Crazy Quilt Made by Nanette Gottschalk who married artist John Bond Francisco. John Francisco was a well known famous artist whose paintings sold very well. On the quilt you can see that she included their last name, FRANCISCO.
Measurements are about 72" by 72".
